Momentum Energy use 100% GreenPower in its office as well as at sponsored events. This is one way we contribute to a more environmentally-conscious work environment.

Tip 1: Reduce Consumption

By reducing your consumption you automatically help the environment. You use less to reduce overall demand. You save money. Some easy ways to reduce consumption include: switch off lights when no one is in the room, have sensor lights where appropriate, use timers, use energy efficient equipment.

Tip 2: Convert to GreenPower

GreenPower is a government accredited renewable energy that is sourced from the sun, wind, hydro and biomass. Momentum Green Energy mainly comes from wind generators. You can choose what percentage of black energy you want to substitute with pure GreenEnergy. The more Green, the less black - that's a clear contribution to renewable forms of energy. As well as this, companies that use more than 10% GreenPower can use the GreenPower logo for their marketing. That's a 3-way benefit: 1. gives you a clear conscious; 2. reduces your company's impact on the environment, and; 3. helps you promote your business.

Tip 3: Create a Committee

For large organisations it is best to form a Sustainability Committee. This ensures that at least one person is directly accountable for helping improve energy efficiency in your company. Their role is to formulate a policy and implement a series of actions to improve business practices and reach your company's sustainability goals. The committee will educate staff on new initiatives, celebrate the success of your improvements, and communicate these to customers.

Forming a sustainability committee is a very pro-active approach to environmental sustainability.

Tip 4: Printing Efficiencies

What easier place to start your sustainability program than with your daily printing!

It's estimated that every ream of recycled paper printed on both sides may save up to two trees and more than a tonne of greenhouse gas emissions.
If your printer is capable of double sided printing then set your computer to print double sided by default. If you're not sure how to do this, download the Momentum Energy "How To" guide!

For Australia's environmental future, start reducing your paper waste today and remember to recycle the paper when you've finished. Better yet, consider whether the document really needs to be printed in the first place.

Tip 5: Transport

If you have a fleet of cars consider this….the average 6-cylinder car may be responsible for approximately 5 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually.

To reduce your company's carbon footprint, cut your fleet's emissions by encouraging staff to use public transport, walk or ride; and utilize teleconferencing to decrease travel to meetings.
