ResourceSmart School of the Year engages community: a bright idea
Winters Flat Primary School last year won the Momentum sponsored “ResourceSmart School of the Year Award” – an initiative of Sustainability Victoria.
For this, they received $10,000 worth of solar panels and funds from Momentum to host the Community Day, which they helped host in partnership with Landcare Australia. As well as learning about sustainable living in workshops, everyone pitched in to create a “bird scape” from 500 native plants – meeting some local water bugs and reptiles along the way.
“At the event Momentum presented a Sustainability Rover – a solar energy trailer – to help children experience renewable energy concepts and take that into what they’re doing around the school and at home,” said Momentum Managing Director, Paul Geason.
“We were proud to be a partner of the Resource Smart School Award program and to play a part in extending Winters Flat students’ proactive focus on sustainability from school into the broader community,” Paul said.
