Electrical safety and compliance certificates

New South Wales

The process for reconnecting your electricity depends on your distributor. Find out who you distributor is here.

Ausgrid

If your distributor is Ausgrid, for a new property or when the electricity has been off for a year, you need to have a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW).

It’s easy:

1. Arrange for an electrician to do the inspection and provide you with a Certificate or Compliance for Electrical Work
2. Email a copy of the certificate to datanorth@ausgrid.com.au
3. Leave a physical copy in the meter box
4. Get in contact with us and let us know it’s done.

We’ll double check it’s all there, and then we can arrange to supply your electricity.

Endeavour Energy

If your distributor is Endeavour Energy, if there are hydroponics onsite, illegal tampering or defects in relation to the connection, you need a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW).

Arrange for an electrician to complete the inspection, then:

1. Leave a copy of the certificate on site (usually in the meter box)
2. Email a copy of the certificate to info@momentum.com.au
3. Email a copy of the certificate to netconmeter@endeavourenergy.com

Then we can connect you with Momentum.

Essential Energy

If your distributor is Essential Energy, and your electricity supply has been off for 12 months, you’ll need a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) before you’re connected to the grid.

Engage an electrician to:

1. Do the inspection
2. Upload the certificate to the Essential Energy Portal (https://essentialconnect.essentialenergy.com.au/necf/security/login.jsf
3. Leave a physical copy in the meter box

Queensland

Energex

If your distributor in Queensland is Energex and your electricity has been off for 12 months, the energy rules require a visual safety inspection (VSI) before turning the power back on.

When you sign up, we’ll check to see if your property needs one. If it does, we’ll arrange for Energex to visit your site. Appointments are Monday to Friday from either 8am to 1pm or 1pm to 6pm. Energex will check your entire electrical installation for damage or exposed live parts.

What you need to do:

1. Enable access to rooms, sheds, cupboards, pumps – anything with an electrical supply
2. Be there for the inspection – unless there are no personal items on site

Once your property has passed the VSI, Momentum can arrange to connect your electricity. Energex may charge you for the visual safety inspection. This may cost up to $360.

South Australia

South Australia Power Networks

South Australia Power Networks (SAPN) is the distributor in South Australia. If your electricity has been off for 12 months, you need an electronic Certificate of Compliance (eCOC).

You need to arrange for an electrician to:

1. Complete the inspection
2. Leave a copy of the eCOC on site (usually the meter box)
3. Upload the eCOC to the SAPN portal (they’ll know what to do)
