A step-by-step guide to moving

* 1. Check connection timeframes openclose

For electricity:
If you let us know you're on the move before 12pm (on a business day) we can connect you that very same day. If you request your move after 12pm or on a weekend or public holiday, we can have the power up and running at your new site by the next business day.

(But it’s always best to let us know ASAP to guarantee your preferred connection date).

For gas:
Gas is very rarely disconnected, so you should be connected on the day you move in. We organise a meter read for the date you give us when you sign up. If your gas is disconnected, we’ll organise a reconnection with your distributor which can take up to 48 hours.

These timeframes may be delayed if there are any issues with the information you have provided or we need to contact you for further information.

2. Pick a plan and sign up openclose

If you’re moving to a new site, you could have new energy usage requirements, equipment or capabilities. Choose which plan is right for your new business location and follow the sign up process (or get in touch with us to chat about your options).

A new site might also allow you to take advantage of our business energy solutions like Virtual Solar Sharing or Virtual Power Plant.

Check out our plans here.

3. We organise the connection openclose

We’ll tell your distributor when you want to be connected. Distributors take care of the poles, wires and pipes that get gas and electricity to you. They may charge a connection fee, which depends on your meter type and how quickly you need to be connected. Our fees and charges page has more info.

4. Disconnect your old place openclose

If you’re no longer doing business at your old site, let the power company know. If you don’t, they’ll think you’re still there (and keep sending you bills).

5. Make sure your meter is ready openclose

For electricity, make sure the main switch is in the ‘off’ position by 7am on your connection day. You’ll also need to make sure there’s clear, safe access to the meter.

Your main switch is in your fuse box, or meter box. If you don’t have a dedicated electrical room, you’ll probably find it on an outside wall, or close to the entrance. Check in with the owner or real estate agent if you don’t have access to the property yet or have trouble finding your meter box.

Once we’ve confirmed your connection, you can turn your main switch back on.

In most cases, gas remains connected, so all the distributor needs is access to the meter to take a read.

6. Wait for confirmation openclose

Once we get the thumbs up from your distributor, we’ll let you know your business electricity is up and running. If your main switch was in the ‘off’ position, now’s the time to flick it back on. If your gas wasn’t already connected, we’ll let you know when it is.

Different companies look after each service, so gas and electricity connections can happen at different times.

Just head into MyAccount and let us know you’re moving. So when the doors open, the lights will be on too.

For gas:

These timeframes may be delayed if there are any issues with the information you have provided or we need to contact you for further information.

2. Move with your plan or pick a new one openclose

In MyAccount, click ‘Organise your move’ and follow the prompts to give us your new business address and the date you want to be connected. You can choose to keep your current plan or pick a new one.

Keep in mind if you’re moving to a new business location, you may have new energy usage requirements, equipment or capabilities (so a new plan might suit you better).

This will only organise a connection at your new business address. Make sure you organise a ‘move out’ to disconnect the power from your old site, or we’ll think you’re still doing important business there and keep sending you bills (and no one wants more bills). There’ll be an option to sort the move out after you’ve sorted the move in, but you can also do it by clicking ‘Organise your move’ from the MyAccount dashboard, then clicking ‘Organise my move out only’.

Log into MyAccount.

If using MyAccount online isn’t your thing, get in contact with us and we’ll be able to help.
