Basslink undersea cable fault – no impact on committed renewable energy supply

Basslink Pty Ltd recently announced a fault in the Basslink undersea cable that connects Tasmania and Victoria.

Until this fault has been resolved, the Tasmanian region of the National Electricity Market (NEM) is temporarily not connected to the mainland grid.

Momentum Energy’s parent company, Hydro Tasmania, will continue to generate renewable energy for the Tasmanian region, using a range of levers at its disposal, including from water in storages and wind power.

We would like to assure our Smile Power customers that this does not impact our commitment to ensuring renewable energy is generated into the National Electricity Market to match your usage, nor does it impact on your immediate supply of electricity from the grid.

Momentum Energy is 100% Australian owned and operated
