SmilePower is renewable energy from a hydro system that has been powering Tasmania for nearly 100 years.

“When you choose to power your business with SmilePower, each year your business’ electricity consumption is matched with an equivalent amount of renewable energy fed into the national grid by our parent company, Hydro Tasmania, which is also Australia's largest generator of renewable energy. Hydro Tasmania has almost 100 years of experience in generating renewable energy. The hydro‐electric power plants of Hydro Tasmania take the energy from water and turn this energy into electricity. Some of this energy is then sent to the mainland and distributed into the National Electricity Market.

As the electricity used by businesses and households which comes from this market is comprised of energy generated from both renewable and non‐renewable sources, this does not mean that SmilePower customers will receive renewable energy directly to their premises. Renewable energy matching the energy used will be fed into the National Electricity Market within the same calendar year that customers are billed for the purchase of SmilePower.
