Momentum Energy supports sustainability awards to empower students
The largest sustainability program in Victoria, the Awards recognise Victorian schools, early childhood services, students and teachers for outstanding community projects. In its first year as the Awards’ Principal Sponsor, Momentum Energy will be working with Sustainability Victoria to foster a greater understanding and embracing of sustainable practices among school-aged children and their communities.
Managing Director, Paul Geason, said empowering students to seek sustainable choices reflects the core of Momentum Energy, as for Momentum, sustainability means using resources wisely.
“We’re thrilled to be able to support today’s young leaders, because we believe that sustainability happens now, as much as it does in the future,” Mr Geason said. “All 41 finalists are so impressive because they demonstrate how innovative we can all be in better using our natural resources.”
Momentum Energy sponsored and presented the following awards:
- ResourceSmart School of the Year and Energy Primary School of the Year: Winters Flat Primary School, Castlemaine.
Winters Flat Primary School students created events and activities such as energy, litter and biodiversity audits, “Nude Food everyday” to reduce litter, 1, 2 or 3 layer days to reduce energy use, as well as an indigenous garden to increase wildlife habitat.
- Energy Secondary School of the Year: Mountain District Christian School, Monbulk.
The 2015 ResourceSmart Education Awards – held at the Melbourne Convention Centre – recognised achievements in biodiversity, waste, community leadership, energy, student-led action and water, as well as ‘teacher of the year’.
